"Alabela"
"Alabela" is a family cellar, which immediate surroundings represent vineyards comprising 20 different varieties of naturally cultivated wines. Following ancient wine-making tradition of Georgia the wine is made in Kvevri (Clay pot).
History
Wine
Scientists have discovered that life of wine begins in Georgia. A vintage produced by ancient Georgians counts over 8,000 years. These traditions are well preserved and wine made today follows the same ancient winemaking process.
Qvevri Wine
The Oldest Evidence
of Winemaking
Central to the Georgian ancient winemaking culture is the Qvevri – The clay vessel – used by ancient Georgians for wine storage and ageing. According to tradition, vessel filled with wine are buried and stored underground for approximately 6 months, to achieve the best flavor of a wine due to a constant temperature of 12-15 degrees. Made with ancient Georgian traditional qvevri (clay jug) wine-making method from “Aladasturi” and “Izabella” sort of grapes. The grape was cultivated in Choporti village, Kartli region, Georgia.
